Background
To carry forward the "Silk Road Spirit", China Post has scheduled the issuance of a set of special stamps titled Cultural Relics of the Silk Road (II) on June 12, 2021. The set contains 4 stamps, with their designs featuring the following cultural relics respectively:Silver Box with Convex Petal Patterns (Han Dynasty)
Celadon Ewer with Brown Spots, Molded and Applied Date Palm Patterns from Changsha Kiln (Tang Dynasty)
Persian-style Peacock Blue-glazed Pottery Vase (Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period)
Celadon Plate with Chrysanthemum Petal Patterns from Longquan Kiln (Song Dynasty)
The total face value of the full set of stamps is 4.80 yuan, and the planned circulation quantity is 7.35 million sets.
These 4 stamps select 4 precious cultural relics from the Maritime Silk Road. Among them:
The Silver Box with Convex Petal Patterns is currently collected in the Museum of the Western Han Dynasty Mausoleum of the Nanyue King;
The Celadon Ewer from Changsha Kiln is housed in the Changsha Tongguan Kiln Museum;
The Persian-style Peacock Blue-glazed Pottery Vase is preserved in the Fujian Museum;
The Celadon Plate from Longquan Kiln is part of the collection of the National Museum of China.
The stamps adopt a flat design style, with a prominent theme and elegant colors. A gray gradient is used as the background to delicately depict the texture and aesthetic charm of the 4 cultural relics. In the stamp designs, the silhouette of the restored Song Dynasty ancient ship from Quanzhou Bay (collected in the Quanzhou Maritime Museum of Overseas Transportation History in Fujian Province) is presented. The background features a schematic map of the Maritime Silk Road route during the Song and Yuan dynasties as well as wave patterns, illustrating the concept of the Maritime Silk Road from multiple perspectives.
This set of stamps was designed by Liu Guancong and printed by Henan Post and Telecommunications Technology Co., Ltd. All 4 stamps adopt a local embossing technique, and additionally use techniques such as partial holographic hot stamping, reverse glazing, special pearlescent effects, and special gloss oil respectively, vividly demonstrating the characteristics of the cultural relics.
