Background
Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival is a commemorative stamp issued by China Post on September 23, 2018, to mark the establishment of the "Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival". The set consists of 1 stamp with a face value of 1.20 yuan.Farmers make up the largest proportion of China's population and have made significant contributions in every historical period, including revolution, construction, and reform. General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized that agriculture must never be neglected, farmers must never be forgotten, and rural areas must never be overlooked at any time. At a crucial stage of poverty alleviation, the decisive phase of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and the inaugural year of implementing the rural revitalization strategy, the Central Government decided to establish the "Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival". This decision responds to the new requirements and expectations of the new era, will greatly mobilize the enthusiasm, initiative, and creativity of hundreds of millions of farmers, enhance their sense of honor, happiness, and gain, and gather tremendous momentum for poverty alleviation, building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, advancing the rural revitalization strategy, and accelerating the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.
The stamp depicts a young couple joyfully dancing while beating drums on fertile loess land. Behind them, golden crops fill the granaries to the brim, and magpies flying overhead add to the joyous atmosphere of the harvest. In the distance, layers of terraced fields in southern China stretch across the landscape. The foreground and background complement each other, forming a beautiful scene of the whole nation "celebrating a bumper grain harvest and enjoying the joy of abundance".
The stamp adopts paper - cutting techniques popular among the people, drawing on traditional New Year paintings and color woodblock printing for its design. It presents a lively scene of modern farmers celebrating the harvest in the golden autumn, which is quite down - to - earth. The overall pattern of the stamp is both concise and vivid, as well as rich and colorful. When philatelists appreciate the stamp, they will find that the patterns of grains, fruits, and vegetables on it have a shiny golden effect. To make the color and texture contrast of the stamp design more brilliant and eye - catching, the stamp printing department made great efforts in the printing process. Specifically, pearlescent ink was used to print the patterns of grains, fruits, and vegetables on the stamp.
