China Post scheduled the release of a commemorative stamp set titled Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge on October 30, 2018. The set contains 3 stamps, with their design themes named "Qingzhou Bridge", "East Artificial Island" and "Undersea Tunnel" respectively. The total face value of the full set is 4.20 yuan. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge connects the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in the east, and Zhuhai City (Guangdong Province) and the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) in the west. It is a crucial part of the Pearl River Delta Loop in the national expressway network planning and a key project spanning the Lingdingyang waters. The bridge project includes the cross-sea bridge-tunnel section, ports in Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao, as well as connecting roads in the three places. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is currently the longest cross-sea bridge in the world, and also the cross-sea bridge project with the longest length, the largest investment and the greatest construction difficulty in China's construction history. The completion of this express link connecting Hong Kong, Macao and Zhuhai holds far-reaching significance for the economic and social integration of the three places and the development and construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The first stamp showcases Qingzhou Bridge, a representative of the bridge structure. As the navigation channel bridge with the largest span and the tallest main tower in the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the "Chinese knot" shape on the bridge echoes the landmark buildings of the three places (Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Zhuhai Grand Theatre, and Ruins of St. Paul's in Macao) in the foreground of the image, symbolizing the close connection between the three places.
The second stamp features the East Artificial Island, a representative of the island structure. Serving as the eastern entrance and exit of the undersea tunnel, the East Artificial Island is located on the Chinese mainland side of the Hong Kong-Guangdong border line. It is a multi-functional artificial island where visitors can stop to watch Chinese white dolphins and enjoy the distant scenery. During the bridge's construction, great emphasis was placed on environmental protection, and a sound living environment was created for the Chinese white dolphin, a national first-class protected animal, demonstrating the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
The third stamp presents the undersea tunnel of the bridge, which has set multiple world records. The undersea tunnel of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is by far the world's longest immersed tube tunnel, with the deepest underwater embedding depth, the largest single immersed tube volume, the longest service life, the most tunnel lanes, and the highest comprehensive technical difficulty. The background shows the full view of the East and West Artificial Islands and the navigation channel above the undersea tunnel.
This set of stamps was designed by Shi Yuan, who has previously designed multiple stamp sets such as China's High-Speed Railways, Ancient Towns in China (I), China's Shipbuilding Industry, Slender West Lake, and Selected Works of Liu Haisu. The stamps were printed using photogravure technology by Beijing Stamp Printing House.
