China Post scheduled the issuance of a set of 1 commemorative stamp themed "The 120th Anniversary of the Founding of Beijing Normal University" on September 8, 2022. The total face value of the complete set is 1.20 yuan, with a planned circulation of 7.8 million sets.

As a key university directly under the Ministry of Education, Beijing Normal University (BNU) is a renowned institution featuring teacher education, education sciences, and fundamental disciplines in liberal arts and sciences. The university traces its roots to the Normal School of the Imperial University of Peking, founded in 1902. In 1908, it was renamed the Imperial Advanced Normal School and became an independent institution. In 1923, it was officially renamed Beijing Normal University, making it the first normal university in China’s history. Over the past century, BNU has always shared the same fate as the Chinese nation in its pursuit of independence, freedom, democracy, and prosperity, playing an important role in patriotic movements such as the "May 4th Movement" and the "December 9th Movement". Upholding the fine traditions of "patriotism and progress, integrity and simplicity, truth-seeking and innovation, and being a model for others" and the school motto of "Learn to be a teacher, act as a model", the university has formed the educational philosophy of "Pursue scholarship and cultivate virtue, strive to contribute to the nation and the world". During the "10th Five-Year Plan" period (2001-2005), BNU was included in China’s "Project 985" (a national initiative to build world-class universities). In 2017, it was selected into the list of Class A universities for China’s "World-Class University" construction program.

This set of stamps was designed by Yu Tong. The main visual of the stamp features BNU’s school emblem, supplemented by elements such as the school motto "Learn to be a teacher, act as a model" and the university’s main building. The background consists of circular thin lines surrounding the school emblem, symbolizing that BNU’s legacy of "spreading knowledge like a wooden bell and sustaining education through unceasing efforts" continues to resonate and develop with the rhythm of the times. The overall composition is full and well-layered, highlighting BNU’s educational spirit and sense of mission, and fully demonstrating the university’s profound historical heritage and vibrant contemporary vitality.

The stamp adopts the combined offset and engraving printing process, engraved by Yuan Yishan and printed by Beijing Stamp Printing Co., Ltd.
