This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation. China Post plans to issue a set of 2 commemorative stamps themed "The 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Russia" on October 2, 2019. The designs of the stamps are respectively "Yangtze River · Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge" and "Volga River · Saratov Bridge", with a total face value of 2.40 yuan.

The Yangtze River and the Volga River are respectively the mother rivers of China and Russia, occupying an extremely important position in the culture and history of the two countries. The two stamps feature iconic bridges over these two rivers: the Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge in Chongqing, China, depicted in the midsummer season, and the Saratov Bridge in Russia, shown in the depths of winter.

Designed by Guo Chenghui, the stamps adopt a sketching style, characterized by free and unrestrained brushwork and a fresh artistic conception. Using both horizontal and vertical compositions, the stamps depict the two grand bridges spanning the mother rivers of China and Russia, along with the beautiful scenery on both banks of the cities. Through variations in color tone, they create unique atmospheres corresponding to the two different styles and seasons.

Printed by Shenyang Post and Telecommunications Printing House in Liaoning Province using offset printing technology, the stamps employ high-precision and high-screen-line fine printing processes combined with special inks. As a result, the main bodies of the bridges stand out prominently, with distinct textural details, clear and stretched lines that are visible one by one. Under ultraviolet light, the complete structure of the bridges and the dazzling night view with bright lights can be seen. The advanced printing technology further highlights the grandeur and beauty of the two bridges, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the stamps.
