Background
China Post is scheduled to issue a set of 5 commemorative stamps themed "Technological Innovation (II)" on November 1, 2019, with a total face value of 6.60 yuan for the full set.A nation thrives when science and technology advance; a country becomes powerful when science and technology grow strong. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China has achieved fruitful results in research fields such as basic research, major science and technology projects, and people's livelihood-related science and technology. The second set of "Technological Innovation" stamps showcases five world-leading major scientific and technological achievements made by China: Chang'e-4 Lunar Probe, Somatic Cell-Cloned Monkeys, Experimental Discovery of the Quantum Anomalous Hall Effect, Novel Drug GV-971 for Treating Alzheimer's Disease, and China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS).
The stamps adopt a hand-drawn illustration style, featuring concise and vivid compositions, strong contrasting color combinations, a distinctive visual style, and a certain sense of surrealism. The first stamp depicts elements of the lunar exploration project, including the Chang'e-4 lander, the Yutu-2 rover, and the Queqiao relay satellite; the second stamp shows the two cloned monkeys "Zhongzhong" and "Huahua", born on November 27 and December 5, 2017 respectively; the third stamp uses an expressway as a metaphor for the magnetically doped topological insulator thin film that simultaneously possesses ferromagnetism, bulk insulation, and topological non-triviality. Combined with an energy band diagram, it presents the scenario of electrons moving efficiently in the topological insulator thin film; the fourth stamp reflects the novel mechanism of action and unique multi-target characteristics of GV-971 by depicting the human internal environment such as the brain and intestines, as well as patterns like seaweed, drug capsules, and chemical structural formulas; the fifth stamp portrays the external shapes of the high-intensity proton linear accelerator, the rapid cycling synchrotron, and the target station. The circular sphere floating in the air symbolizes the wide application and broad prospects of the spallation neutron source in fields such as materials science, physics, life sciences, and new energy.
The stamps are printed using color holographic positioning hot stamping technology, which boasts high technological content and strong anti-counterfeiting performance, making it the ideal choice among various printing methods to showcase technological innovation. For the first time, printed patterns are overlaid on color holographic positioning hot stamping patterns on stamps, which is a great challenge to processing precision and another masterpiece reflecting the pursuit of excellence in Chinese stamp printing.
This set of stamps is designed by Du Yukai and printed by Henan Post and Telecommunications Printing Factory using the offset printing process.
