Background
China Post is scheduled to issue a set of 3 special stamps entitled Leading Horses out of Stable on March 3, 2026. The name of each stamp design is: Leading Horses out of Stable (Detail). The total face value of the complete set is 3.90 yuan, with a planned circulation of 4.6 million sets.Leading Horses out of Stable is a silk-based color painting created by Ren Renfa, a painter of the Yuan Dynasty, and is now preserved in the Palace Museum.Painted in the Gengchen year of the Zhiyuan era (1280), the painting adopts a horizontal composition, depicting three stable officials and four fine horses from right to left, with delicate brushwork and vivid images.
In terms of layout composition, the set adopts a connected stamp design commonly used for ancient painting themes, and uses a "full-bleed" presentation to enlarge the area of the ancient painting pattern. A light ochre fine border as close as possible to the background of the ancient painting is adopted, with reddish-brown face value and design name, which are placed at the bottom of the layout together with the postal inscription, so as to better set off the ancient charm of the original painting and restore its original appearance.
In image processing, layered depiction is applied to figures, horses, seals, inscriptions, silk background textures and other elements, while the color saturation is appropriately enhanced. The background adopts the ochre-yellow tone commonly used in ancient paintings, accurately presenting the color layers and subtle ink changes of the ancient painting, with elegant and coordinated colors and delicate and rich layers.
The full sheet of stamps is designed with traditional Chinese warm brown, cinnabar and beige as border colors, with natural and soft color transitions, setting off the simple and elegant unique charm of the original painting. The upright horse on the right echoes the thematic elements of the stamps, strengthening the theme while highlighting the visual focus. The design accurately conveys the brushwork charm and historical texture of Yuan Dynasty court paintings, creating a quiet and profound cultural atmosphere, allowing viewers to directly feel the artistic tension of the ancient painting.
The set of stamps is printed with high-precision six-color offset printing technology. The overall picture of the stamps is delicate with clear details, accurately restoring the simple and ancient artistic conception of the original painting and highlighting the background texture of the ancient painting.
In terms of technological design, the spot colors are finely matched to simulate the texture of the ancient painting after years of precipitation, which not only restores the simple texture of silk paper, but also enhances the three-dimensional sense and artistic appeal of the picture. The visual effect of the stamps is highly consistent with the elegant ancient artistic style of the original work, fully showing the charm of the ancient painting at a glance.
The stamps are designed by Miao Hui, edited by Liu Jian, and printed by Beijing Stamp Factory Co., Ltd. using offset printing technology.
