China Post will issue a set of three special stamps titled World Cultural Heritage – Cultural Landscape of the Ancient Tea Forests of Jingmai Mountain in Pu'er on September 17, 2026. The stamp set was designed by Guo Zhenshan and edited by Wang Nan.

On September 17, 2023, the "Cultural Landscape of the Ancient Tea Forests of Jingmai Mountain in Pu'er" was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List at the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee, becoming the world's first tea-themed World Cultural Heritage site. The indigenous peoples of Jingmai Mountain developed the "tea under forest" cultivation technique, creating a unique cultural landscape of forest-tea coexistence and harmony between people and the land. The ancient tea forests, passed down for thousands of years, are a typical representative of well-preserved and richly connoted artificially cultivated ancient tea forests. They are the crystallization of the wisdom of China's agricultural civilization and a model of positive interaction between humanity and nature and sustainable development.

The stamps use watercolor techniques combined with the freehand style of traditional Chinese landscape painting to organically integrate the natural scenery and cultural character of Jingmai Mountain, unfolding a thousand-year scroll of "Jingmai above the clouds, harmony between people and land, and coexistence of tea and forest."

Stamp Designs and Historical Background

Jingmai Above the Clouds

The main subject is the sea of clouds that perpetually shrouds Jingmai Mountain. Distant mountains layer upon layer, clouds and mist drift over the peaks, and villages are hidden among the forests and sea of clouds. This recreates the iconic ethereal mountain-and-water atmosphere of Jingmai Mountain and reflects the unique mountain natural scenery of the heritage site.

Harmony Between People and Land

The stamp depicts traditional ancient villages built along the mountains, with scattered dwellings nestled among the tea forests. It presents the humanistic picture of ethnic minorities living here for generations, thriving on the ancient tea forests, and coexisting with the mountains and forests.

Coexistence of Tea and Forest

The stamp focuses on presenting the three-dimensional ancient tea forest community. Beneath tall trees grow expanses of ancient tea plants, with herbaceous vegetation covering the forest floor. It directly displays the thousand-year-old "tea under forest" cultivation system, expressing the ecological model of forest-tea coexistence.

The stamps are printed using high-precision photogravure technology, with clear images, saturated colors, and rich layers. They not only showcase the natural beauty of Jingmai Mountain's mountains, rivers, forests, and marshes but also convey the contemporary theme of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature and sustainable development.
