Background
China Post scheduled the issuance of a set of special stamps themed Modern Bridge Construction on June 30, 2023. The set includes 3 stamps and 1 souvenir sheet. The designs of the stamps are titled Husutong Yangtze River Rail-cum-Road Bridge, Oujiang North Estuary Bridge and Pingnan Third Bridge respectively, while the design of the souvenir sheet is named Beipanjiang First Bridge. The total face value of the complete stamp set is 9.60 yuan. The planned circulation is 7.35 million sets of the standard stamp set and 5.85 million pieces of the souvenir sheet.

Modern bridges are an important reflection of a country’s technological level and comprehensive national strength. With the rapid development of China’s economy and the continuous improvement of its independent innovation capabilities, numerous modern bridges have connected rivers, lakes, mountains and valleys. These bridges not only serve as "bridges of happiness" for the people but also showcase the extraordinary strength of "China Construction" to the world. The Husutong Yangtze River Rail-cum-Road Bridge, independently designed and constructed by China, is the world’s first rail-cum-road cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 1,000 meters. It has achieved five "world-first innovations" and holds milestone significance in the history of railway bridge construction in China and even the world. The Oujiang North Estuary Bridge is the world’s first three-pylon, four-span double-deck steel truss suspension bridge. Adopting a "two-bridges-in-one" design, it boasts three world-first innovations. The Pingnan Third Bridge is the world’s largest-span concrete-filled steel tube arch bridge that has been completed and opened to traffic. During its construction, 20 research projects were established, and it has won 58 national invention patents. The Beipanjiang First Bridge connects Yunnan and Guizhou provinces, adopting a double-pylon, four-lane steel truss cable-stayed bridge structure. The vertical distance from the bridge deck to the river surface is 565 meters, equivalent to the height of a 200-story building. Currently, it is the world’s tallest steel truss cable-stayed bridge and the one with the second-largest span globally.

The stamp designs adopt the artistic form of watercolor painting, using a creative technique that combines wet and dry brushwork. Integrating different perspectives such as top-down, bottom-up and eye-level views, the designs showcase the structural features of the bridges and their magnificent momentum of spanning across rivers and mountains. At the same time, they also present the beautiful ecological environment and unique natural landscapes around the bridges. This set of stamps was designed by Guo Zhenshan and Yang Rui. Beijing Stamp Printing Co., Ltd. printed the stamps using offset printing technology and the souvenir sheet using photogravure technology.
