Background
China Post scheduled the issuance of a set of commemorative stamps themed “The 10th Anniversary of the Proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative” on September 7, 2023. The set contains one stamp, which shares the same title as its design theme. With a face value of 1.20 yuan per set, the stamps are planned to have a circulation of 7.05 million sets.In September and October 2013, during his visits to Central Asian and Southeast Asian countries, Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China, successively put forward the major initiatives of jointly building the “Silk Road Economic Belt” and the “21st-Century Maritime Silk Road”. The year 2023 marked the 10th anniversary of the proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Over the past decade, the joint construction of the BRI has evolved from laying a solid foundation and establishing key frameworks to taking root and achieving sustainable development. It has grown into an open, inclusive, mutually beneficial and win-win international cooperation platform, as well as a globally recognized public good widely embraced by the international community. Throughout these ten years, the BRI has played a crucial role in deepening policy coordination among various countries, advancing global connectivity, reshaping the landscape of international trade, and boosting world economic growth.
The main design of the stamp features the number “10”, composed of elements such as flowers, doves of peace, as well as road-and-rail transport vehicles, cargo ships and cranes that symbolize infrastructure cooperation and connectivity. This design embodies the profound connotation of the ancient Chinese maxim quoted by General Secretary Xi Jinping: “A single flower does not make spring; hundreds of flowers in full bloom bring a vibrant spring to the garden.” It implies that over the past decade, “a series of China's initiatives and propositions have flourished and gradually taken shape with the pursuit of the common values of all humanity—peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy and freedom.” Incorporated with the element of the “Golden Bridge on the Silk Road”, the design further highlights the concept of “connectivity and win-win cooperation”.
The stamp was designed by Dong Qi and printed using the photogravure technique by Beijing Stamp Printing Co., Ltd. Additionally, China Post has jointly produced a stamp booklet themed on the same topic with Hongkong Post and Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau for distribution in the three regions. This stamp booklet was designed by Shao Xin.
