China Post issued a commemorative stamp for the 39th General Assembly of the International Organization for Standardization on September 11, 2016.

The 39th General Assembly of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was held in Beijing from September 10 to 14, 2016. Founded on February 23, 1947, the ISO is the world's largest international standardization body. Its primary mission is to coordinate standardization efforts worldwide, and to develop, publish, and promote international standards. The ISO General Assembly is its largest and most important meeting. This was the second time the General Assembly has been held in China, the first being in 1999. The theme of this year's General Assembly was “Standards Connect the World,” aiming to strengthen international cooperation in standardization, fully leverage the coordinating, regulatory, and guiding role of standards in global governance, promote global connectivity, and advance the harmonious development of the economy, society, and the environment.

The main visual of the stamp uses jigsaw puzzle pieces—a familiar everyday symbol of standardization—as the central design element. Blocks of different colors cascade down and gradually transform into the shape of the Earth. The letters "ISO" and icons representing clothing, food, housing, transportation, industry, science and technology, and other aspects of life are embedded within the puzzle, illustrating the theme of “Standards Connect the World” and the wide-ranging impact of standardization on every aspect of human life.
