The Nanchang Uprising of 1927 marked the birth of the People's Liberation Army of China, and 2007 marked the 80th anniversary of its founding. Over the 80-year journey, the People's Army has remained steadfast in its mission and true to its original character. The stamps feature four themes—Obeying the Party's Command, Serving the People, Being Brave and Skilled in Battle, and Maintaining Peace—presenting the spirit of the People's Army in the new era: loyalty and dedication, care for the people, military readiness, and international responsibility, paying tribute to the 80-year glorious history of the People's Army.

Stamp Designs and Historical Background

Obeying the Party's Command

The stamp depicts soldiers of the three services—Army, Navy, and Air Force—saluting, with the red Party flag and the Great Wall in the background, symbolizing the absolute loyalty of the People's Army and its adherence to the Party's leadership.

Serving the People

The stamp portrays soldiers on the front lines of flood relief, with a scene of military and civilian efforts to combat flooding in the background. It reflects the army's commitment to stepping forward in times of crisis and protecting the people.

Brave and Skilled in Battle

The stamp features soldiers in new camouflage uniforms, holding rifles, with a background showing multi-service joint exercises involving the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Second Artillery Force, demonstrating the strength of China's modernized national defense.

Maintaining Peace

The stamp depicts a Chinese peacekeeping medical soldier, with doves of peace and battlefield rescue elements, representing China's active participation in UN peacekeeping missions and its commitment to global peace.

Artistic and Design Features

The four stamps share a unified vertical composition, using red, yellow, blue, and green as the primary color themes for each stamp. The foreground figures are realistic and solemn, while the background uses freehand scenes to enhance the themes, creating clear visual hierarchy. The photogravure printing delivers rich and vibrant colors, with resolute expressions on the figures. The stamp set presents a clear and comprehensive picture of the People's Army in the new era. The miniature sheet features elegant bridge illustrations, enhancing the visual appeal of the format.

This stamp set is a major military commemorative issue, available in stamp set, large sheet, and miniature sheet formats. Collectors often pair it with the 70th, 90th, and 100th anniversary stamps of the PLA to form a complete series of military commemorative collections, making it an important item in military and national defense-themed stamp collections.
