Background
China Post is scheduled to issue a set of 3 special stamps titled Chaohu Lake on May 25, 2024. The stamps are themed "Mist-Shrouded Laoshan Mountain", "Birds Singing in Wetlands" and "Harmonious Coexistence of City and Lake", with a total face value of 3.60 yuan. The planned circulation of the stamp set is 6.6 million.Located in the heart of Anhui Province, Chaohu Lake is one of China's five major freshwater lakes. The three stamps respectively showcase the lake's scenic beauty, ecological charm, and the innovative vitality of a "city integrated with a great lake". The first stamp, "Mist-Shrouded Laoshan Mountain", captures the misty morning scenery of Laoshan Island, highlighting its ethereal elegance and profound cultural heritage. The second stamp, "Birds Singing in Wetlands", depicts the ecological landscape of the wetlands surrounding Chaohu Lake, presenting a harmonious scene of flocks of birds bathing in the morning glow. The third stamp, "Harmonious Coexistence of City and Lake", takes an aerial view of Chaohu Lake as the main scene, complemented by urban landmarks such as the Innovation Pavilion, Science and Technology Museum, Art Museum, and Dujiang Campaign Memorial Hall. It reflects the harmonious state of "city-lake coexistence" through aspects of living environment, urban development, and cultural history, showcasing the new look of Chaohu Lake.
The stamps are created using watercolor techniques, emphasizing the integration of landscape imagery with ink and color, as well as abstract compositional forms, featuring distinct artistic characteristics. Amidst the lingering charm of ink and color, the lake scenery, historical heritage, and modern metropolis shine in harmony—depth emerges from the mist, and richness is felt in the moisture—presenting a beautiful picture of the harmonious coexistence between city and nature, and between humans and the environment.
Printed with high-precision multi-color offset lithography, the stamps use special pearlescent ink for the lake surface to create a sparkling texture that showcases the lake's beauty. The face value is accentuated with special deep blue ink, which complements the lake surface effect and exudes a soft and subtle elegance.
This stamp set is designed by Ding Sizhong, edited by Gan Zhige, and printed by Beijing Stamp Printing Co., Ltd. using offset printing technology.
