China Post is scheduled to issue a set of 2 commemorative stamps themed "Centenary of the Founding of the Whampoa Military Academy" on June 16, 2024. The stamp designs are entitled Main Campus of the Whampoa Military Academy and Sun Yat-sen Memorial Room and Monument, with a total face value of 2.40 yuan for the set. The planned circulation is 6.65 million sets.

In 1924, with the assistance of the Communist Party of China, the Soviet Union, and the Communist International, Sun Yat-sen founded the Whampoa Military Academy in Guangzhou. The century-old history of the Whampoa Military Academy is a glorious record of pursuing national independence, saving the nation from peril, and advocating patriotic revolution, as well as an epic of striving for national reunification, rejuvenation, and self-improvement. Since its establishment, the academy has been closely linked to the destiny of the country and the nation. Generations of Whampoa teachers and students have stood the test of history, made positive contributions to advancing China’s revolution, construction, and national reunification, and written a brilliant chapter in the process of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The Whampoa Spirit of "patriotism and revolution" has endured and thrived, becoming an important part of Chinese culture and national spirit.

Through a balanced and full composition, the set of stamps highlights a sense of profound history while embodying the spirit of the times, featuring concise imagery, prominent themes, and an elegant temperament. The main patterns of the stamps adopt the traditional form of single-color engraving, which enhances the three-dimensionality and layering of the images through sophisticated engraving techniques. For the first stamp, dark blue engraving ink is used to symbolize profound cultural heritage and historical accumulation, while green fluorescent ink sets off the vitality of the ancient trees. For the second stamp, red engraving ink is employed to express patriotic spirit, and orange fluorescent ink lends the image a warm and solemn atmosphere. The light beige background creates a retro ambiance for the stamps, which not only reflects the weight of history but also complements the theme, vividly presenting the century-old legacy of the Whampoa Military Academy.

This set of stamps was designed by Xia Jingqiu, edited by Liu Jian, and printed by Beijing Stamp Printing Co., Ltd. using the combined offset and engraving printing process.
