China Post is scheduled to issue a set of 4 commemorative stamps themed Commemorating the 120th Anniversary of the Birth of Comrade Deng Xiaoping on August 22, 2024. The stamps are titled Diligent Work and Frugal Study, Years of Military Service, The Spring of Science and Reform and Opening-Up. The total face value of the complete set is 4.80 yuan, with a planned issuance of 7 million sets of regular stamps and 880,000 sheets of the second format.

Comrade Deng Xiaoping was an outstanding leader with high prestige universally recognized by the whole Party, the whole army and people of all ethnic groups across the country. He was a great Marxist, a great proletarian revolutionary, statesman, strategist and diplomat, a seasoned communist fighter, the chief architect of China's socialist reform and opening-up as well as its modernization drive, the trailblazer of the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and the main founder of Deng Xiaoping Theory.

Diligent Work and Frugal Study: At the age of 16, Comrade Deng Xiaoping traveled across the oceans to engage in work-study programs. It was there that he embraced Marxism and joined the Communist Party of China. From then on, he unswervingly strived for the cause of the Party and the people for more than 70 years.

Years of Military Service: During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the Liberation War, Comrade Deng Xiaoping resolutely implemented the strategic decisions made by the Party Central Committee and Comrade Mao Zedong. Holding concurrent military and administrative posts, he courageously took on heavy responsibilities, fearlessly braved hardships and dangers, and achieved brilliant victories by surprising the enemy. He had long been in a crucial position in the overall strategic situation and at the forefront of the struggle against the enemy.

The Spring of Science: In 1978, the Party Central Committee convened the National Science Conference. At the conference, Comrade Deng Xiaoping put forward the important assertion that science and technology constitute a productive force, marking the arrival of "the spring of science" in China.

Reform and Opening-Up: After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Comrade Deng Xiaoping always stood at the height of the requirements of the times, the development of the country and the expectations of the people. Together with the central leading collective, he led our Party in making a series of major decisions, steadily advancing the cause of reform and opening-up and socialist modernization.

This set of stamps is presented in the form of oil paintings, vividly reproducing the glorious life and extraordinary demeanor of Comrade Deng Xiaoping. Adopting the high-screen gravure printing process, the stamps depict three-dimensional portraits of the figure with distinct facial expressions and details. Great attention is paid to adjusting the light and shadow contrast during printing, and the facial features of the figure are enriched through color gradation, resulting in a delicate image with rich layers as a whole.

This set of stamps is collectively created by the Central Academy of Fine Arts (principal designers: Lin Mao, Sun Cong, Hao Ninghui, Zhang Yibo, Xu Jiafu, Xia Libin, Cai Haokun). It is edited by Gan Zhige and printed by Beijing Stamp Printing Co., Ltd. using the gravure printing process.
