Background
China Post is scheduled to issue a set of 1 commemorative stamp themed "The 150th Anniversary of the Founding of the Universal Postal Union" on October 9, 2024. The stamp is titled The 150th Anniversary of the Founding of the Universal Postal Union with a face value of 1.20 yuan. The planned issuance quantity is 6 million sets.Founded in 1874, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) became a specialized agency of the United Nations in 1948. Its purpose is to organize and improve international postal services, and promote international cooperation and development in this field. Through the effective operation of postal services, it fosters connections among people of all countries, so as to achieve the lofty goal of promoting international cooperation in cultural, social and economic fields. China joined the UPU in 1914, and the UPU restored China's legitimate seat in 1972. Since 1974, China has participated in all sessions of the UPU Congress, and has been elected a member of the Postal Operations Council for every term. Except for two terms of rotation, it has been elected a member of the Council of Administration. China actively participates in various activities of the UPU, has hosted many international seminars in China, and provided special donations to the UPU to help countries affected by natural disasters quickly restore their postal infrastructure and services.
With the 150th anniversary logo of the UPU as the main subject, the stamp integrates pigeon patterns composed of lines in the background, implying that the postal network reaches around the world and expressing the connotation of "Connecting the World, Empowering People". The white edge lines of the LOGO on the left side of the picture and the text "150" adopt colorless fluorescent technology, which has a strong visual impact under fluorescent lamps; the envelope on the right side uses hot stamping technology, showing a color-changing effect through film lamination, which attracts the user's visual focus and balances the overall picture rhythm. The stamp features rich colors, distinct layers and a strong sense of modernity.
This set of stamps is designed by Jiang Wei, with Wen Wenya as the responsible editor, and printed by Beijing Stamp Printing Co., Ltd. using offset printing (with partial hot stamping) technology.
