Background
China Post is scheduled to issue a set of 4 commemorative stamps and 1 souvenir sheet themed "China 2024 Asian International Philatelic Exhibition" on November 29, 2024. The stamps are titled Ding Qi Xin Zhang (Tripod Heralds a New Chapter), Hu Yun Liu Guang (Glamour of Shanghai Through the Ages), You Meng Wei Lai (Philately Dreams of the Future), and You Bo Gu Jin (Philately Bridges Past and Present), while the souvenir sheet is named Pu Jiang Zhao Hui (Morning Glow Over the Huangpu River). The total face value of the set is 10.80 yuan. The planned issuance quantities are 6.39 million sets of stamps and 5.25 million souvenir sheets.

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, showcase China's development achievements and cultural charm in the new era, promote the exchange and mutual learning of Asian civilizations, and advance the cause of international philatelic culture, the China 2024 Asian International Philatelic Exhibition will be held at the Shanghai Exhibition Center from November 29 to December 3, 2024. Sponsored by the Federation of Inter-Asian Philately (FIAP), this exhibition is a major international cultural event hosted by the State Post Bureau and co-organized by the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, the People's Government of Jing'an District (Shanghai), China Post Group Corporation Limited, and the All-China Philatelic Federation. With the theme "Stamps as a Window to Asian Civilizations", the exhibition will feature five thematic days: Opening Day, Shanghai Culture Day, Youth Day, Awards Day, and FIAP Day. It will also host a series of rich and colorful Chinese and international philatelic activities, including a thematic exhibition celebrating the 75th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Official Exhibition, international philatelic seminars, and events marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of FIAP.

Integrating the five themes of the exhibition, the stamp designs adopt five artistic techniques to respectively showcase Shanghai's iconic cultural relics, splendid cultural heritage, the charm of philately, and urban scenery. The compositions are rich, the layouts harmonious and aesthetically pleasing, with a strong sense of rhythm and melody. Adhering to the concept that technology serves art, the stamp printing process is designed to extend the thematic connotations and enhance the design style. The first stamp uses 3D embossing to create a relief effect of the Great Ke Tripod; the second employs colorful hot stamping to highlight the brilliant cultural charm of Shanghai's century-old history; the third reveals an interesting hidden pattern when heated to 45°C or above; the fourth adopts traditional engraving to convey the sense of depth and layering of century-old buildings. The halo colors of the souvenir sheet complement the morning glow over the Huangpu River, and a different viewing angle reveals fireworks and bright neon lights along the river at night. An additional special-edition souvenir sheet integrates chip technology: when an NFC-enabled mobile phone is brought close to the Oriental Pearl Tower on the sheet, the "Pearl" lights up and chip information can be read.

The set of stamps and souvenir sheet are designed by Xia Jingqiu, Wang Chen, Jing Shaozong, Pan Hu, and Wang Huming, with Wen Wenya as the responsible editor. Henan Post & Telecommunications Technology Co., Ltd. undertakes the printing: the first stamp uses offset printing (with partial hot stamping and embossing), the second uses offset printing (with partial hot stamping), the third uses offset printing (with scented ink and thermochromic ink), the fourth uses combined offset and engraving printing, and the souvenir sheet uses offset printing (with partial hot stamping).
