Background
China Post is scheduled to issue a set of 5 special stamps themed "Pudong in the New Era" on July 20, 2020. The total face value of the complete set is 6.00 yuan, with a planned circulation of 6.6 million sets. The five stamps are titled: China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, Zhangjiang Science City, Lujiazui Financial City, East Bank of the Huangpu River, and Yangshan Port.

2020 marks the 30th anniversary of the development and opening-up of Pudong in Shanghai. In 1990, facing a difficult and complex international environment, the Party Central Committee made the major decision to develop and open up Pudong, declaring to the world China's firm confidence and determination in reform and opening-up. Over the past 30 years, Pudong has transformed from a rural area of farmland into a modern new city with concentrated functions, complete elements and advanced facilities. This fully demonstrates the institutional advantages of socialism with Chinese characteristics and reflects the world value of Chinese concepts and solutions on the path to modernization.

The stamps "Pudong in the New Era" show Pudong's construction as the core bearing area of Shanghai's international economic, financial, trade, shipping and sci-tech innovation centers, as well as the accelerating pace of building an international cultural metropolis. Five representative development achievements are selected as the themes: China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, Zhangjiang Science City, Lujiazui Financial City, East Bank of the Huangpu River and Yangshan Port.

Breaking away from the conventional se-tenant stamp design, the set features Lujiazui Financial City at its center with large-format images that unfold sequentially from left to right. In terms of color matching, modern and concise fashion tones are adopted, and the artistic conception of blank space connects the five stamps coherently. Special through-line artistic fonts are used to highlight the theme of Pudong's 30th anniversary of development and opening-up. Each of the five stamps is based on simplified landmark buildings, decorated with symbolic graphics and symbols. The composition is dominated by vertical lines leaping up and down, extending left and right to horizontal lines, perspective lines and arc lines, outlining the magnificent scenes of the pictures and harmonizing into a symphony of outstanding dreams. It fully showcases the fruitful achievements of Pudong's development and opening-up over the past 30 years, as well as Pudong's vigorous vitality and dynamism for future development.

The set is printed using high-precision frequency-modulated screening technology, enhanced with hot stamping and full-color fluorescent processes. The hot stamping effect of Lujiazui Financial City creates a strong visual impact, combining the points, lines and surfaces of landmarks such as the Shanghai Tower and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower to highlight a distinct sense of layering and reflect Pudong's modern urban vibe. Under ultraviolet light, the stamps present a dazzling and flowing effect, with modern buildings standing tall vividly on the paper, vividly interpreting the development achievements of Shanghai Pudong over the past 30 years.

Designed by the renowned artist Han Binghua, the set is printed by Henan Post and Telecommunications Printing House using offset printing technology.
