Background
China Post is scheduled to issue a set of 1 commemorative stamp titled "Centenary of the Publication of the Complete Chinese Translation of The Communist Manifesto" on August 22, 2020. The stamp bears the theme "Centenary of the Publication of the Complete Chinese Translation of The Communist Manifesto" with a face value of 1.20 yuan. The planned circulation is 7.5 million sets.

In early 1920, Chen Wangdao received an invitation to translate The Communist Manifesto. Proficient in Japanese and English, and endowed with excellent Chinese language skills, Chen Wangdao unhesitatingly took on this important task. In the following days, he "confined" himself to a wood shed at his ancestral home in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, and devoted himself to translating the entire text day and night, forgetting both food and sleep.

One day, Chen Wangdao's mother brought zongzi (glutinous rice dumplings) and brown sugar to the wood shed. After a while, she asked from outside the door: "Do you need more sugar?" Chen replied: "I've had enough, it's extremely sweet!" When his mother went in to clean up the bowls and plates, she saw that Chen's mouth was covered with black ink. It turned out that he had been so absorbed in the translation that he had mistakenly taken the ink from the ink slab as brown sugar and dipped his zongzi in it! This incident gave birth to the classic story that "the taste of truth is very sweet."

In August 1920, The Communist Manifesto was officially published in Shanghai, quickly spreading across China and receiving an enthusiastic welcome from advanced intellectuals and the working class. The translation and publication of The Communist Manifesto promoted the process of founding the Communist Party of China (CPC), created an ideological starting point in history, and allowed progressive figures who were struggling to find a way out for China to see hope and feel the power of truth, laying an important ideological foundation for the establishment of the CPC.

Adopting a sketching artistic approach, the design of this stamp fully presents the scene of the translation of the complete Chinese version of The Communist Manifesto, vividly and meticulously depicting Chen Wangdao's earnest and selfless demeanor during the translation. It is accompanied by the cover of the complete Chinese translation of The Communist Manifesto, and the background of the stamp specifically features the Exhibition Hall of The Communist Manifesto (Former Residence of Chen Wangdao) at Fudan University, which sets off the theme of the stamp and demonstrates the great power of Marxist truth.

Designed by Li Chen, the stamp is printed by Henan Post and Telecommunications Printing House using offset printing technology.
