Background
November 8, 2017, marked the 18th Journalists' Day. November 8, 1937, was the founding date of the "China Young Journalists' Society" — the predecessor of the All-China Journalists Association (ACJA) . In 1999, ACJA proposed designating this date as the annual "Journalists' Day", which was approved by the State Council on August 1 of the following year. Since then, Chinese journalists have had their own festival. The Party and the government have always attached great importance to the development of journalism. Especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, General Secretary Xi has delivered many important speeches, supporting and encouraging the healthy development of journalism, and creating a positive, healthy and dynamic development environment for China's news media and journalists.

On November 8, 2017 — the 80th anniversary of ACJA's founding and the 18th Journalists' Day of New China — China Post specially issued the commemorative stamp set Journalists' Day.

In addition to the traditional fountain pen in the center, the Journalists' Day stamp features two semicircles on both sides. From a distance, these semicircles resemble butterfly wings, forming a "flying" shape when combined with the fountain pen. The left semicircle is a grid composed of silver squares, while the right one is a digital interface made of curves. Both areas contain several icons representing news gathering and editing tools and equipment in the new era: eight symbols including pen and paper, camera, keyboard and mouse, Shijian-13 Satellite (later renamed Zhongxing-16 Satellite) , microphone, video camera, voice recorder, and ground launch station.

The fountain pen in the design symbolizes journalists' professional spirit of upholding social responsibility and their confident demeanor. The two circular patterns composed of lines and dots on both sides metaphor the earth and the internet respectively, indicating the diversified and globalized development trend of news media. Icons of various gathering and editing equipment such as microphones, video cameras, and voice recorders, combined with elements like satellites and ground launch stations, highlight the enormous social influence of contemporary journalists. Meanwhile, the fountain pen and the two side circles together form a fluttering butterfly. With the characteristic of sucking nectar, the butterfly implies journalists' lofty mission and responsibility of caring about national welfare and people's livelihood, pursuing truth, goodness and beauty, promoting social progress, and building a better new life.
