Background
The year 2014 marked the 60th anniversary of the National People's Congress (NPC). On September 15, 1954, the first session of the First National People's Congress convened in Beijing, marking the establishment of the people's congress system nationwide. The system of people's congresses is the fundamental institutional arrangement that upholds the leadership of the Party, the people's position as masters of the country, and the rule of law in an integrated manner. Over the past sixty years of practice, it has been fully demonstrated that the people's congress system is a sound system that conforms to China's conditions and realities, embodies the nature of the socialist state, ensures the people's position as masters of the country, and guarantees the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The commemorative stamp set "60th Anniversary of the National People's Congress" was issued by China Post on September 15, 2014, to mark this occasion. The set consists of two stamps with catalog number 2014-21.
The stamp designs are simple and clear, with a strong thematic focus. They use the main venues of the NPC sessions as the primary visual element, incorporating a gradient of red and yellow in the stylized number "60" to symbolize the glorious journey of the NPC and its continuous progress in keeping with the times.
The first stamp features the exterior of the Huairen Hall in Zhongnanhai, the main venue for the first session of the First National People's Congress in September 1954. The background shows the historic moment of the session's vote and passage of relevant resolutions. The design uses an antique, elegant, solemn, and dignified color palette, conveying a sense of historical depth and gravitas.
The second stamp features the Great Hall of the People, which has served as the main venue for NPC sessions since the second session of the Second National People's Congress. The background highlights the interior of the Great Hall's massive auditorium, focusing on its magnificent ceiling. The overall design conveys a majestic and splendid atmosphere, symbolizing that the Communist Party of China is the core leadership of the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics. The two stamps together represent the glorious journey, remarkable achievements, and practical experience of the people's congress system.
