Background info
Jingpo Lake is one of the few barrier lakes on mountains in the world. The lake, located within the territory of Mudanjiang City of Heilongjiang Province, is a shining pearl in Northeast China. The lake lures throngs of Chinese and foreign visitors with its simple, natural beauty, and has become a well-known tourist attraction. A legend goes that: a fairy from the Heavenly Palace accidentally dropped her magic mirror into the Heavenly River while combing her hair and making up, the mirror was turned into the Jingpo Lake when it was flown to the earthly world. Actually, Jingpo Lake was formed due to lava barriers when a volcano erupted about 10,000 years ago.
The beautiful Jingpo Lake is tranquil, being surrounded by mountains with lush vegetation and forests. The "eight sceneries of Jingpo Lake"-Diaoshuilou Pubu (Diaoshuilou Waterfalls), Dagushan (Greater Gushan Mount), Xiaogushan (Lesser Gushan Mount), Baishi Lazi (White Rock), Chengqiang Lazi (Wall-like Rock), Zhenzhumen (Pearl Gate), Daoshishan (Taoist Mount ) and Laogu Lazi (Pigeon-shape Rock)-are most famous. Within the scenic area of Jingo Lake grow the opulent virgin forests, lie the ancient ruins of walls and structures, harbour the rare and precious wildlife and aquatic animals, birds and beasts. The area features clear-cut seasons, with "spring flowers", "summer rainfalls", "autumn leaf" and "winter snow" highlighting each season.
