Background info
The first East Asia Games was held from May 9 to 18, 1993 in Shanghai. More than 1200 competitors from China, Japan, Korea, The Republic of Korea, Mongolian, Hong Kong, Macao, Chinese Taibei and other regions took part in this events. In this games, there are 534 medals in all, among which there were 170 gold medals, and China won 105, listing in top 1. Japan and Korea listed in top 2 and 3. There were 7 competitors broke Asian records in 13 events.
The background building of these two stamps are Shanghai gymnasium. On the left side of the gym, you can see eight athletes are dashing towards the tape. The yellow background color symbolizes the eight countries and regions which took part in the East Asia Games. On the right side of the gym is the mascot - a bird called "Dongdong", holding the white Magnolia denudata, which is the city flower of Shanghai. It is running toward the competitors from different countries, which shows Shanghaiers¡¯ warm welcome to this game. Above the gym, there is a beam of sum ray. On one hand, it is functioned as a sharp contrast to the football field on the bottom of the stamp. One the other hand, it symbolizes the rising and development of East Asia.
