Background info
Changbaishan lies in the east part of Jilin province, at the border of China and the Republic of Korea. Its highest peak is 2749 metres above the sea level. It is rich in natural resources with 2700 species of plants. For still keeping primitive ecosystem, it is regarded as a natural museum. In 1980, it was listed in "human and ecosphere system" by UNESCO.
The first stamp depicts Changbaishan Tianchi, which is at the top of the Changbaishan volcano cone. It covers an area of 9.82 square kilos, 204 meters deep in average, 2190 metres above sea level. The second stamp depicts high mountain tundra, which is at the middle and upper part of Changbaishan volcano cone. Lichen bryophyte, and herbs can be found there. The third stamp depicts Changbaishan Waterfall, which lies in the north of Tianchi. It is the biggest waterfall with 68 meters high in the north of China. The last stamp depicts coniferous and broadleaf forests, which lies in the area of 500-1000 metres above sea level. Nowhere is there a more amazing collection of plants.
