Background
The 11th G20 Summit was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, from September 4 to 5, 2016. It was the first time China hosted the G20 Summit. With the theme of "Building an Innovative, Invigorated, Interconnected and Inclusive World Economy," the Summit set four key priorities: "innovative growth," "more efficient global economic and financial governance," "robust international trade and investment," and "inclusive and interconnected development." As the host, China, together with other G20 members, upheld the spirit of partnership, building on the outcomes of previous summits to consolidate the foundation for global economic recovery and growth, and to propel the world economy toward a new round of growth and prosperity. On August 27, 2016, the commemorative stamp "2016 G20 Hangzhou Summit" was first issued in Hangzhou.
The stamp features a pale green color scheme and incorporates elements of Hangzhou's West Lake scenery—the silhouette of the Broken Bridge and the Baochu Pagoda are faintly visible, blending seamlessly with the summit's logo. In addition to the traditional paper stamp, China Post also used silk—a Hangzhou specialty—as a printing material, giving the set a distinctive Chinese character and Jiangnan charm, and presenting a unique style where history and modernity converge. Notably, this is the first time West Lake has appeared on a stamp since the 1989 "Hangzhou West Lake" special stamp, and it marks the first time that local Zhejiang elements have been included in a commemorative stamp for a major international event. The harmonious integration of West Lake, with its "light or heavy makeup always becoming her," and the G20 Hangzhou Summit logo is a perfect match.
