On April 13, 2016, China Post issued a set of 2 commemorative stamps themed "Song Ci – Founder of World Forensic Medicine".The first stamp, "Portrait of Song Ci", adopts a brown color scheme, depicting a bust of Song Ci wearing a turned-up brim hat and Han-style clothing. The blank background emphasizes the main figure and highlights his rigorous professional characteristics. The second stamp, "Writing and Establishing Theories", takes light blue as the keynote, showing the scene where Song Ci instructs young people to study Collected Cases of Injustice Rectified. The ancient books and teaching interaction elements in the picture symbolize the inheritance of the forensic medicine system.
Designed by the famous painter Fan Zeng, the stamps are presented in the form of traditional Chinese painting, with strong and powerful lines and elegant colors, fully demonstrating Song Ci's spirit and temperament as the founder of world forensic medicine. The set of stamps adopts the offset-intaglio combination printing process, engraved by Bai Jin and Liu Yimin, and printed by Henan Post Printing House.
Song Ci (1186-1249), courtesy name Huifu and art name Zimu, was born in Jianyang, Fujian (now part of Nanping, Fujian). He was an ancient Chinese forensic medical scientist. Song Ci passed the imperial examination during the reign of Emperor Ningzong of the Southern Song Dynasty and served as Judicial Intendant four times. He accumulated rich first-hand data on forensic examinations and summarized the forensic knowledge of the Song Dynasty and earlier periods, compiling the book Collected Cases of Injustice Rectified in 1247. This book is the earliest existing systematic monograph on forensic medicine in the world. It not only guided the judicial practice of the Song Dynasty and subsequent dynasties, but also was translated into many languages and widely spread, becoming a classic in the history of world forensic medicine, more than 350 years earlier than similar works published in Western countries. Therefore, Song Ci is universally recognized as the founder of world forensic medicine.
