Background
On November 12, 2016, China Post issued a set of four commemorative stamps titled The 150th Anniversary of the Birth of Sun Yat-sen.

Sun Yat-sen (1866–1925), born Wen, courtesy name Yixian, was born in Xiangshan County, Guangdong Province (now Zhongshan City). He was a great national hero, a great patriot, and the forerunner of China’s democratic revolution. After founding the Revive China Society in 1894, Sun Yat-sen devoted himself wholeheartedly to the revolutionary cause against imperialism and feudal rule, pioneering China’s modern national democratic revolution in its full sense. Under his organization and leadership, and inspired by his revolutionary spirit, the 1911 Revolution broke out, overthrowing the Qing Dynasty and putting an end to the autocratic monarchy that had lasted thousands of years in China, thus opening the door to China’s progress. The historic feats accomplished by Sun Yat-sen for national independence, social progress and people’s well-being will be forever inscribed in history.

Rendered in light wash pen-and-ink style, the stamp set features the Memorial Hall of Sun Yat-sen’s Former Residence, the Site of the Wuchang Uprising Military Government of the 1911 Revolution, the bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen, the Sun Yat-sen Hall in Zhongshan Park, and Zhongshan Memorial Middle School. With fresh brushstrokes and concise artistic techniques, the illustrations depict places where Sun Yat-sen once lived and worked, embodying the people’s remembrance of him across the country.
