China Post will issue a special stamp titled "Full Moon, Mid-Autumn" on August 28, 2016, with a face value of 1.20 yuan.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Harvest Moon Festival, falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, right in the middle of autumn, which is how it got its name. As one of China’s oldest traditional festivals, it is second only to the Spring Festival in importance. The festival originated from ancient moon worship, and by the Tang Dynasty, the term “Mid-Autumn Festival” was already in use. In the Southern Song Dynasty, it became a major celebration observed by people from all walks of life. Traditions such as moon-viewing, eating mooncakes, watching tidal bores, and family feasts have been passed down and are still practiced today. The full moon of Mid-Autumn remains as timeless as ever, and so does our appreciation for cherished relationships, our reverence for tradition, and our love for festive celebrations.

The stamp features fine brushwork in the style of traditional Chinese painting. The upper part depicts the mythological tale of Chang'e Flying to the Moon, while the lower part shows a scene of folk moon worship, praying for a bountiful harvest, good health, longevity, and family reunion.
