    Background info

The Xianghai National Nature Reserve in Tongyu County, Jilin Province, is an inland wetland of water ecological system, spanning 105,500 hectares. Its various tyes of primitive ecological systems such as lakes, scrubs, dunes, elm groves, calamus and reed marshes, and Aneurolepidium chinense grassland constitute a peculiar landscape. It is home to hundreds of species of wild plants and animals. More than 200 bird species live and procreate here, including crans, swans, white storks, bustards, and golden eagles. It is the homeland of red-crowned cranes. In 1992 the World Wild Life Fund designated it as an "A class nature reserve of international importance". It is one of the 30 wetlands of China that have been included in the List of Wetland of International Importance.
