Background

Comrade Deng Xiaoping was a distinguished leader of high prestige widely acknowledged in the Communist Party of China (CPC), the armed forces and the whole Chinese nation. He was the core of the second generation of leadership of the Central Committee of CPC and chief architect of China's socialist reform, opening and modernization. He established the Deng Xiaoping Theory, and led the CPC and the Chinese people to reform and open up China to the outside world. Embarking on a new road of socialism with Chinese characteristics under his leadership, China has developed fast socially and economically, China's overall national strength grown, the people's living improved, and the vitality of socialism demonstrated as never before.
