Background info
The story of Mulan's joining the army in place of her father comes form "Mulan",a long narrative folk song from the Northern Dynasties. Mulan was an ordinary, industrious young woman, who wove cloth all day. But when a war broke out, she decided to disguise herself as a man and join the army in place of her father, an extraordinary and impossible deed for a woman at that time. After marching for thousands of kilometers and fighting for ten years, Mulan returned home in triumph and with brilliant achievements in war. But she declined the offer of a high post, changing the military uniform for her former woman's clothes. It was not until then that her battle companions, who had fought young with for 10 years realized that the brave warrior with outstanding achievements was a woman. Mulan, a brave, pure and determined young woman from a common family, won popularity among people of later periods.
