Stamp Design and Historical Background

The 5th Congress of the All-China Philatelic Federation

The main image of the stamp is a postal relay dispatch order used by the Zhejiang Provincial Administration Commission in the 10th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty. This artifact is now housed in the China National Philatelic Museum. The dispatch order was a voucher used by ancient postal stations when transmitting official documents, recording the transfer and circulation of documents. It is a precious physical relic for studying the postal relay system of the Qing Dynasty. The border of the souvenir sheet features the Landscape Painting by the Qing Dynasty court painter Tang Dai, with the original housed in the Palace Museum. The landscape brushwork is steady and vigorous, creating a distant and elegant antique charm. It combines ancient postal artifacts with traditional painting and calligraphy, reflecting that philatelic culture is rooted in Chinese historical heritage.

Artistic and Design Features

The overall tone of the souvenir sheet is simple and antique. The offset printing provides soft layers, faithfully reproducing the handwriting of the ancient dispatch order and the brushwork texture of the ancient landscape painting. In terms of layout, the stamp is centered with the ancient painting as the background, with theme text above and below. The ancient document and the landscape image enhance each other, without elaborate decoration. The design closely follows the theme of the philatelic congress, using ancient postal artifacts to highlight the historical origins of philately. It integrates postal history, traditional painting and calligraphy, and philatelic culture, making it a classic souvenir sheet in the philatelic theme.
