Background

Mao Zedong ( 1893 - 1976 ) , styling himself Runzhi and born at Shaoshanchong, Xiangtan of hunan Province, was a great Marxist, proletarian revolutionary, strategist, theoretician and military scientist.

In the long term revolutionary struggles, Comrade Mao Zedong creatively combined the universal tenets of Marxism-Leninism with the concrete practice of China and so enriched and developed Marxism-Leninism. He performed immortal feats for the founding of the Chinese Communist party and the People's Liberation Army of China, for the victory of the people's liberation cause of all the Chinese nationalities, and for the founding of the People's Republic of China and the development of socialist undertaking. He made outstanding contributions to the liberation of the world's oppressed nations and to the progress of mankind.
