Background info
In May, 1942, Mao Zedong delivered a speech in the rectification movement in YanˇŻan. Soon ˇ°Talks at YanˇŻan Forum on Literature and Artˇ± was published. In this talk, he summarized the fundamental historical experience in the development of literature and art since the revolution on 4 May, 1919. Taking the actual conditions in base area into consideration, he proposed ˇ°literature and art should serve the workers, peasants and soldiers in our countryˇ±, which directed the development of proletarian literature and art work.
