Background
China Post scheduled the issuance of one commemorative stamp set themed The 70th Anniversary of the Chinese People's Volunteers Entering the War to Resist US Aggressors and Aid Korea on October 25, 2020. The stamp is titled The 70th Anniversary of the Chinese People's Volunteers Entering the War to Resist US Aggressors and Aid Korea, with a face value of 1.20 yuan and a planned circulation of 10.5 million sets.In June 1950, the Korean Civil War broke out. The Truman administration of the United States immediately launched armed intervention and a full-scale war against Korea. In defiance of repeated warnings from the Chinese government, it brazenly crossed the 38th Parallel and spread the flames of war to the banks of the Yalu River. In October 1950, in response to the request from the Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government as well as the aspirations of the Chinese people, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Chairman Mao Zedong made the strategic decision to resist US aggressors and aid Korea to defend the motherland. They formed the Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV), which marched to the Korean battlefield and fought side by side with the Korean military and civilians against the invaders. After two years and nine months of fierce and bloody battles, the Chinese People's Volunteers achieved a great victory in the War to Resist US Aggressors and Aid Korea despite being equipped with inferior weapons and equipment.
This war fully demonstrated the national prestige and military prowess of the People's Republic of China. It safeguarded the security of both the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the newly founded People's Republic of China, exerted a profound impact on and transformed the political landscape of Asia and even the world, and laid a solid foundation for the important status of the People's Republic of China in Asian and international affairs.
Adopting a graphic design approach, the stamp mainly uses gold, red and warm gray as the dominant colors. Its composition is concise and grand, presenting a magnificent and solemn scene. With the image of CPV soldiers committed to defending the motherland as the main subject, the stamp is integrated with the design elements of "70", doves of peace and olive branches, symbolizing the remembrance of history, safeguarding the motherland and upholding peace. The background depicts the scenes of the Chinese People's Volunteers crossing the Yalu River to march to the frontlines and fighting heroically, which further highlights the theme of the stamp.
Designed by Yu Xue, this set of stamps was printed by Beijing Stamp Printing House using the photogravure technique.
