China Post scheduled the issuance of a set of 2 commemorative stamps themed "The 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Friedrich Engels" on November 28, 2020. The two stamps are respectively titled "Engels in His Youth" and "Engels at Work", with a total face value of 2.40 yuan for the whole set. The planned circulation is 7.5 million sets.

Friedrich Engels (November 28, 1820 – August 5, 1895) was a German thinker, philosopher, revolutionary, educator, military theorist, one of the founders of Marxism, a proletarian revolutionary mentor, and the close comrade-in-arms of Karl Marx. At the end of August 1844, Engels returned to his home country from the United Kingdom. On his way back, he met Marx in Paris, and since then, they formed a great friendship and fought side by side for the liberation of the proletariat and all mankind throughout their lives. After Marx's death, Engels took on the important task of organizing and publishing Marx's literary heritage, as well as continuing to lead the international workers' movement. He also wrote many important works, particularly compiling and publishing the second and third volumes of Das Kapital.

In addition to the works co-authored with Marx, such as The Holy Family, The German Ideology, and The Communist Manifesto, Engels' works also include those written independently, including The Condition of the Working Class in England, Anti-Dühring, Socialism: Utopian and Scientific, Dialectics of Nature, The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State, and Ludwig Feuerbach and the End of Classical German Philosophy.

This set of stamps adopts a sketch-style design. The first stamp presents a bust of Engels in his youth, with Engels' former residence as the background; the second stamp shows the image of Engels in his later years at work, with the covers of the Chinese versions of The Communist Manifesto (featuring the portraits of Marx and Engels) and Das Kapital as the background.

Designed by Wu Weishan, this set of stamps was printed by Henan Post and Telecommunication Printing Factory using the offset printing technique.
