Background
China Post is scheduled to issue a set of 2 special stamps titled "China-Europe Railway Express (Yiwu - Madrid)" on June 15, 2019. The stamps are respectively named "Yiwu" and "Madrid", with a total face value of 2.40 yuan for the complete set.China-Europe Railway Express refers to international container block trains that operate between China, Europe, and countries along the "Belt and Road" Initiative. These trains run on fixed schedules, routes, frequencies, and with full-journey timetables. They provide transportation capacity support for serving China's foreign economic and trade development and advancing the construction of the "Belt and Road" Initiative. Among all China-Europe Railway Express routes, the one from Yiwu to Madrid has the longest operating mileage. On November 18, 2014, the first China-Europe Railway Express (Yiwu - Madrid) departed from Yiwu to Madrid. Covering a total distance of 13,000 kilometers and passing through 8 countries, it has greatly promoted trade exchanges between China and Spain.
This set of stamps is jointly issued by China Post and Correos (Spanish Post). Based on the content of the images, the stamps adopt a parallelogram format. The foreground patterns show two trains departing from Yiwu (China) and Madrid (Spain) respectively. The background patterns feature Yiwu International Trade City and Madrid's iconic building - the Puerta de Alcalá. The white railway tracks at the bottom of the images form the shape of longitude and latitude lines, symbolizing that the China-Europe Railway Express connects the two countries closely across thousands of mountains and rivers.
This set of stamps is designed by Jiang Wei, engraved by Martin Mörck (Denmark), and printed by Beijing Stamp Factory using the combined offset and engraving printing process.
