Background
This stamp set was officially issued on September 2, 2007. It consists of two stamps, each with a face value of 1.20 yuan, for a total face value of 2.40 yuan. The stamps were designed by Yang Wenqing, with Chen Jingzhi serving as the responsible editor, and printed by Shenyang Post and Telecommunications Printing Factory in Liaoning Province using offset printing.

Jinhu Lake, located in Taining, Fujian, is the core scenic area of the Taining Global Geopark. It is a classic example of water-eroded Danxia landform, often referred to as the "most beautiful lake and mountain under heaven." The artificial lake and the red Danxia cliffs embrace each other, creating a unique and stunning landscape of mountain and water harmony. The stamp set features two iconic landmarks—the Great Red Cliff and Maoshan Mountain—presenting the unique beauty of the blue waters and red cliffs of southeastern China, and highlighting the precious Danxia geological heritage of the country.

Stamp Designs and Historical Background

Great Red Cliff

The stamp depicts a massive red Danxia cliff by the lake, with steep and smooth rock faces, clear and calm water, and small boats floating on the lake. The towering red cliff is reflected in the blue water, creating a breathtaking view of the Danxia landscape.

Maoshan Mountain

The stamp offers a bird's-eye view of a lake bay, where a Danxia rock peak resembling a crouching cat stands by the water. The peak is covered with lush vegetation, and the winding bay enhances the vivid and lifelike shape of the mountain, making it a highly recognizable landmark of Jinhu Lake.

Artistic and Design Features

The two horizontal stamps are designed as a continuous pair, using a semi-freehand traditional Chinese painting style with warm and elegant tones. The red cliffs, green lake waters, and misty white spaces create a serene and distant atmosphere, with small boats adding decorative touches. The offset printing provides soft and delicate colors. The two stamps form a seamless and expansive landscape scroll, capturing the ethereal and refined beauty of the water-eroded Danxia landscape.

This stamp set is a special issue on China's Danxia landscapes and Global Geoparks, available in stamp set and large sheet formats. Collectors often pair it with other Fujian landscape stamps, such as those featuring Taining Danxia and Wuyi Mountain, making it a distinctive addition to thematic collections on southeastern Danxia landforms.
