Background
China Post will issue a set of two commemorative stamps on October 10, 2025, to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Palace Museum. The stamps are titled "Objects as Carriers of Civilization" and "The Eternal Legacy of Art". The full set has a face value of 2.40 yuan, with a planned circulation of 4.9 million sets for the standard stamps and 693,000 sheets for Format II.The Palace Museum, established on October 10, 1925, is a comprehensive museum built upon the foundation of the Ming and Qing imperial palaces and their collections. It integrates ancient architectural complexes, imperial artifacts, and cultural and artistic treasures from various dynasties. As a vital bearer of China’s 5,000-year civilization, it stands as a gathering place for outstanding traditional Chinese culture.
The stamp designs combine graphic design with hand-painted techniques, featuring a subdued and classical color palette with an elegant and minimalist style. This approach preserves the historical gravitas of traditional artifacts and architecture while enhancing visual expression and artistic appeal through modern design aesthetics.
The first stamp, "Objects as Carriers of Civilization," centers on the "Gold-Inlaid Pearl Celestial Globe" as its main visual element. Above the globe, the Shenwu Gate and surrounding palace structures are skillfully incorporated, showcasing the grandeur of the Palace Museum’s architecture and harmoniously blending the beauty of cultural relics with the magnificence of the buildings.
The second stamp, "The Eternal Legacy of Art," features the "Millennium Harmony Scroll" as its core theme. The concept of "harmony" embodies the philosophical ideals of balance, inclusivity, and synthesis in Chinese civilization, conveying the enduring legacy of traditional culture and its revitalization in the modern era.
The stamps were printed using high-precision offset technology, capturing the texture of artifacts and the charm of classical paintings. The first stamp highlights the unique shape and exquisite craftsmanship of the celestial globe, while the second stamp presents a delicate, softly graded background for the scroll. The border design employs special metallic ink, with the title and Palace Museum emblem at the top complementing the traditional "sea and cliff" pattern at the bottom. Under ultraviolet light, fluorescent effects enhance both the anti-counterfeiting features and visual appeal of the stamps.
The stamp set was designed by Yin Xiaofei, edited by Gan Zhige, and printed by Beijing Stamp Printing Co., Ltd. using offset printing technology.
