Background
China Post will issue a set of four special stamps titled "Greater Khingan Range" on August 8, 2025. The stamps are named "Wetland," "Volcano," "Forest," and "Aurora." The total face value of the set is 4.00 yuan, with a planned issuance of 4.6 million sets for the individual stamps and 693,000 sheets for Sheet II.

The Greater Khingan Range is a significant mountain range in Northeast China, serving as the watershed between the Inner Mongolia Plateau and the Songliao Plain. It is also one of the country's key state-owned forest regions and a primary distribution area for natural forests. The stamps sequentially feature four highly representative landscapes—wetland, volcano, forest, and aurora—vividly presenting the beautiful scenery of the Greater Khingan Range throughout the four seasons and showcasing the region's rich natural resources and beautiful ecological environment.

The first stamp, "Wetland," depicts the wetland landscape when migratory birds return and azaleas bloom, highlighting the excellent ecological environment of the Greater Khingan Range. The wetlands here are characterized by wide distribution, diverse types, beautiful scenery, intact functions, and rich biodiversity. They represent a rare treasure trove of wildlife and plants in China's high-latitude regions and serve as an important base for studying cold-temperature ecosystems.

The second stamp, "Volcano," portrays the crater lake scenery formed by volcanic activity, showcasing the unique geographical environment of the Greater Khingan Range. Over hundreds of millions of years of frequent and complex crustal movements, the volcanoes of the Greater Khingan Range have formed the Nuomin River Volcanic Group, Chaihe Volcanic Group, Arxan Volcanic Group, and Dalinor Volcanic Group from north to south. Most of these volcanic groups are among the few active volcanoes in China, renowned worldwide for their vastness and grandeur, creating some of the most suitable volcanic relics for observation and appreciation in the country.

The third stamp, "Forest," captures the autumn forest scenery of the Greater Khingan Range, displaying the vibrant and colorful views of its vast primeval forest. The dense primeval forest is dominated by tree species such as Dahurian larch, Mongolian pine, Korean spruce, white birch, Mongolian oak, and David poplar. With its rolling green mountains and boundless forests, the range acts as a natural barrier for the Inner Mongolia and Songnen Plains, serving as a critically important ecological protection zone and a strategic reserve for forest and timber resources in China.

The fourth stamp, "Aurora," illustrates the stunning phenomenon of the aurora illuminating the winter sky, emphasizing the unique celestial spectacle of high-latitude regions. The aurora is an optical phenomenon occurring at high altitudes in Earth's high-latitude regions, appearing as bands, arcs, ovals, or rays centered around the poles. As a natural astronomical wonder, it has no fixed form, and its colors vary, most commonly green, white, yellow, and blue, occasionally displaying brilliant reds and purples—both enchanting and mysterious.

This stamp set aims to showcase the rich natural resources and beautiful ecological environment of the Greater Khingan Range, conveying the development philosophy that "green ecology is our valuable resource and asset," promoting the idea that "green ecology represents health and vitality," and echoing the theme that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets."

The stamps are printed using high-resolution offset printing, resulting in richly layered and detailed images. The combination of fluorescent and varnish effects vividly recreates the majestic scenery and unique charm of the Greater Khingan Range, adding distinctive visual highlights to the stamps. Under ultraviolet light, the river in the first stamp appears as the life source of the wetland ecosystem, meandering through the marshes; the second stamp uses fluorescence blended with varnish to transform the profound energy of the volcano into a unique scenic feature; the third stamp's technique makes the lush trees even more vibrant and colorful; and in the fourth stamp, the brilliant auroral lights intertwine with the snow-capped mountains, enhancing the scene's mystery and dreamlike quality.

The stamp set was designed by Yin Huili and Han Lu, edited by Wen Wenya, and printed by Beijing Stamp Printing Co., Ltd. using the offset process.
