China Post is scheduled to issue a set of 2 commemorative stamps titled "The 100th Anniversary of the May 4th Movement" on May 4, 2019. The names of the stamp designs are respectively: Inheriting the "May 4th" Spirit and Forging Ahead in the New Era. The total face value of the complete set is 2.40 yuan.The May 4th Movement that broke out a hundred years ago was a great patriotic revolutionary movement against imperialism and feudalism in an all-round way. It was pioneered by advanced young intellectuals and participated in by the broad masses of the people. It is a landmark event in China's modern history. The ideas of patriotism, progress, democracy and science advocated by the May 4th Movement are of great significance to the realization of the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
The first stamp features the relief of the May 4th Movement on the Monument to the People's Heroes in Tiananmen Square and the typical images of the May 4th youth, presenting the historical scene of this great patriotic revolutionary movement that took place a hundred years ago. The second stamp uses the silhouettes of young people in the new era and symbolic elements representing national prosperity, economic development and social progress. It shows the vigorous spirit of the younger generation forging ahead in the new era, implying that "young people in the new era should ride the spring breeze of the new era and let their youth dreams fly in the vast sky of the motherland". The creative shape of the number "100" and the red streamers on the two stamps create a strong atmosphere for commemorating the 100th anniversary of the May 4th Movement, and highlight the solemnity and sublimity of inheriting the May 4th spirit.
This set of stamps is designed by Xia Jingqiu and printed by Liaoning Shenyang Post and Telecommunications Printing Factory.
