Background info
On 26 July 2006, the State Post Bureau issued a one-piece set of special stamp, entitled " Protecting Against and Mitigating Earthquake Disasters", with a total face value of 80 fen. The picture on the stamp is named "Protecting Against and Mitigating Earthquake Disasters".
Of all the natural disasters, earthquake poses the biggest threat to human life. As a country with active seismic activity, China has the highest continental seismicity level in the world. The Xingtai Earthquake of 7.2 magnitude in 1966 turned over a new page in China's cause of protecting against and mitigating earthquake disasters. Over the past 40 years, adhering to the principle of relying mainly on precautions, and combining defense with assistance, China has made outstanding achievements in earthquake monitoring and prediction, earthquake disaster prevention and emergency relief. They have played an active role in protecting people's lives and properties, ensuring economic development and maintaining social stability.
