Background
T145 "Beijing Electron-Positron Collider" special stamp was issued on November 1, 1989. The set consists of 1 stamp, printed by photogravure, with a stamp size of 40 × 27 mm, perforation gauge 11, and 50 stamps per sheet (5 × 10). Designed by Chen Youlin and printed by the Beijing Stamp Factory.Theme of the Set
The Beijing Electron-Positron Collider (BEPC) was a major high-technology project of China in the 1980s. Completed in October 1988, it was the core facility for domestic high-energy physics research at the time and a landmark achievement in China's cutting-edge science and technology following the "Two Bombs, One Satellite." This stamp takes this project as its theme, showcasing China's breakthroughs in high-energy physics and particle physics, demonstrating the determination to independently develop basic science and scale the heights of modern science and technology, and popularizing among the public the scientific value of high-energy accelerators.
Stamp Design and Historical Background
Beijing Electron-Positron Collider
The main visual of the design is a cross-section of the Beijing Spectrometer, with electron and positron beams entering from the left and right and colliding in the central region, bursting out into radial particle tracks. In the lower left corner is a simplified plan diagram of the collider, marked with the English abbreviation BEPC. The electron-positron collider is shaped like a badminton racket: the linear accelerator is responsible for accelerating particles, the ring-shaped storage ring realizes particle accumulation and collision, and the Beijing Spectrometer is used to detect the microscopic particles produced by the collisions, providing an experimental platform for high-energy physics experiments and synchrotron radiation applications.
Artistic Design Features
The design adopts a scientific and technological illustration style, with a deep blue background simulating the microscopic space of the universe. The forms are concise and abstract, using light beams and radial lines to intuitively express the physical phenomenon of particle collision. The structural diagram and the main device complement each other, balancing scientific accuracy with visual expressiveness. The colors are calm and restrained, with a strong sense of technology, making it a classic New China stamp on the theme of basic science.
