Background info
Brown Eared Pheasant,large (100 cm) brownish "eared" pheasant. Very like Blue Eared Pheasant but general plumage greyish brown rather than bluish grey and with longer plumose tail. Iris - orang; bill - pink; feet - red. Voice: Makes gu-ji gu-ji calls when foraging. Courting males make deep gu-gu gu-gu call. Range: Endemic to N China. Distribution and Status: Globally Vulnerable (Collar et al. 1994). Very rare. Survives only in a few localities in Shanxi, Beijing Municipality and NW Hebei above 1300 m. Habits: As other eared pheasants. Lives in stunted montane forest, feeding in scrub and grassy clearings.
