Background info
On April 24,1970,"Long March I" carrier rocket successfully sent "East Is Red I" satellites into orbit, making China one of the few countries in the world to have the capability of deploying multiple satellites with a single rocket. On February 8 1994, the new type carrier rocket "Long March III", which has a payload of 3.2 tons, was successfully launched. On May 12 1997, "Long March III" launched "East Is Red III" Communications satellite, signifying a new height in China's communications satellite technology.
