Theme of the Set

The Geological Society of China was founded in Beijing in 1922 and is China's earliest geoscience academic organization, initiated by geological pioneers such as Zhang Hongzhao, Ding Wenjiang, Weng Wenhao, and Li Siguang. Marking the 60th anniversary of the society's founding, this stamp commemorates the occasion, highlighting the scientific mission of geological researchers to explore the earth, find mineral resources, and understand the planet, and affirming the supporting role of geological undertakings in national resource exploration and the four modernizations.

Stamp Design and Historical Background

Society Emblem

The main subject of the design is the emblem of the Geological Society of China. The emblem is composed of five seal-script characters—"earth, stone, mountain, water, and Zhong (China)." "Zhong" represents China, while earth, stone, mountain, and water correspond to the objects of geological research and the internal and external geological dynamic processes. Below the emblem are a geological hammer and a compass, classic tools of geological field exploration, symbolizing field investigation and the truth-seeking, pragmatic work of geological research.

Artistic Design Features

The overall composition is concise and dignified, with a dark background setting off the main image and clean, condensed lines. It combines the society emblem with geological tools, closely centering on the theme of geological science. It is plain and rigorous, full of a scientific atmosphere, and is a classic commemorative stamp on the theme of geological academic organizations.
