Background
China Post is scheduled to issue a set of 4 special stamps and 1 souvenir sheet themed "Daocheng Yading" on September 28, 2024. The stamps are titled Xianuoduoji, Luorong Pasture, Five-Colored Lake, and Xianainri, while the souvenir sheet is named Yangmaiyong. The total face value of the set is 10.80 yuan. The planned issuance quantities are 6 million sets of stamps and 5 million souvenir sheets.Located in the Shaluli Mountains of the Hengduan Mountain Range, Daocheng Yading boasts a unique landform shaped by its special geographical location. Here, visitors can admire a variety of geological, ecological, and cultural landscapes, including towering snow-capped mountains, karst peak forests, glacial lakes, forested grasslands, and temples with pagodas. The core landscapes of the scenic area are three snow-capped mountains—Xianainri, Yangmaiyong, and Xianuoduoji—distributed north-south in a triangular formation.
The stamp designs adopt four photographic works, featuring concise compositions and prominent themes:
Xianuoduoji: The eastern peak of the "Three Holy Mountains" (Sanhu Zhu), with an altitude of 5,951.3 meters. Composed of layered marble, the rock formations stand vertically due to intense geological forces, forming abrupt peaks with sharp horns. Below the snow-capped peak lies a talus slope formed by glacial fragmentation and collapse, while alpine shrubs and forests cover the mountain foothills. Through the ingenious combination of special cold stamping materials and custom offset printing ink, this stamp presents the purity and sacredness of the "Golden Mountains Bathed in Sunlight" on the snow-covered plateau.
Luorong Pasture: An alpine pasture at an altitude of approximately 4,150 meters, used for grazing by nearby villagers. Surrounded by the three snow-capped peaks, the pasture is traversed by the Gongga River. Herds of cattle and sheep enjoy abundant sunshine here, with gurgling streams winding through forests and complementing the pasture cabins, forming a charming scene. Dynamic light column cold stamping film is cleverly selected for this design to match the color of the lake surface.
Five-Colored Lake: The highest lake in Daocheng Yading, with an altitude of approximately 4,600 meters, a circular shape, and an area of 0.7 hectares. Modern glacial valleys extend down to the lake shore. Under sunlight, the underwater plants and lake water emit different hues, transitioning gradually yet subtly like a vivid oil painting. The cold stamping effect perfectly captures the agility and transparency of the lake water.
Xianainri: The northern peak of the "Three Holy Mountains", with an altitude of 5,998.5 meters. A typical synclinal mountain, it has a nearly horizontal top and slightly upturned sides without distinct sharp peaks. The mountain is surrounded by glacio-erosional peak forest landforms, with glaciers, glacial relics, and alpine lakes scattered throughout.
The souvenir sheet Yangmaiyong depicts the southern peak of the "Three Holy Mountains", standing at an altitude of 6,033.0 meters. Shaped like a maiden, the mountain exudes grace and dignity. Its towering, magnificent snow-capped peak rises straight into the blue sky, with melted snow water flowing down the mountainside in rhythmic cascades, forming spectacular waterfalls. The souvenir sheet is designed in the shape of an eye, with the beautiful scenery of Daocheng Yading's snow-capped mountains and lakes reflected in the pupil. The background presents a panoramic view of the three holy mountains, while the border features rare flora and fauna of Daocheng.
The fourth stamp and the souvenir sheet adopt the printing method of "offset printing + intaglio printing + cold stamping", and popularize science about the "greenhouse effect" through thermochromic engraved intaglio technology. When the temperature exceeds 45℃, the snow-capped mountains on the fourth stamp change color from snow white to gray, and those on the souvenir sheet change from snow white to blue. This technological design aims to advocate environmental awareness, alert people to the hazards of global warming, and jointly protect our Earth home.
This set of stamps is designed by Wang Huming, with Wen Wenya as the responsible editor. Henan Post & Telecommunications Technology Co., Ltd. undertakes the printing: Stamps 1 to 3 use offset printing (with partial hot stamping), while Stamp 4 and the souvenir sheet use combined offset and engraving printing (with partial hot stamping).
