Background
China Post is scheduled to issue a set of 2 commemorative stamps themed "Commemoration of the Opening of the 24th Winter Olympic Games" on February 4, 2022. The two stamp designs are titled "Together for a Shared Future" and "Light of Hope" respectively. The total face value of the full set is 2.40 yuan, with a planned circulation of 11.5 million sets. The 24th Winter Olympic Games was held in Beijing and Zhangjiakou from February 4 to February 20, 2022. This was the third Olympic event hosted by China, following the Beijing Olympic Games and the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games. Beijing thus became the first "Dual-Olympic City" in Olympic history to have hosted both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. Since 2017, China Post has issued 5 sets (18 stamps) of commemorative stamps themed on this Winter Olympic Games, 1 set (2 stamps) of special stamps for personalized services, and 3 sets of ordinary postage envelopes and postcards.
This set of stamps was designed by Wang Huming, mainly using white and blue to highlight the concept of the "grand snow and ice event". The stamp designs transform the rich and dynamic audio-visual language of the Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony into two-dimensional visual language. By deconstructing and reorganizing the three-dimensional space and time span, the classic elements of the Opening Ceremony are presented on the two-dimensional surface, embodying the design concept that "a moment becomes eternal". The overall design of the stamps is simple and exquisite, showing an ethereal, elegant and modern style that aligns with the concept of the Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony.
The set of stamps was printed by Henan Post and Telecommunications Technology Co., Ltd. using offset printing technology, with a focus on showcasing the snow and ice elements characteristic of the Winter Olympics. The first stamp "Together for a Shared Future" adopts holographic cat-eye and laser embossing technology to highlight the three-dimensional Winter Olympic Emblem. The second stamp "Light of Hope" combines positioned holographic cold stamping with multiple technologies to emphasize the three-dimensional snowflake platform and flickering flame. Under light irradiation, the images on the stamps appear rich, vivid and glowing with colorful light, vividly presenting a strong sense of modernity and technology on the small stamp surface.
