Background
China Post plans to issue a set of 1 commemorative stamp titled "The 50th Anniversary of the Successful Launch of China's First Man-Made Earth Satellite" on April 24, 2020. The set has a face value of 1.20 yuan with a planned circulation of 7.3 million sets.On April 24, 1970, China's first man-made earth satellite "Dongfanghong-1" was launched into space by the "Long March-1" carrier rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. The satellite accurately entered its predetermined orbit and transmitted the melody of Dongfanghong (The East is Red) from space to all parts of the world. This inaugurated a new era in China's aerospace history, making China the fifth country in the world to independently develop and launch a man-made earth satellite after the Soviet Union, the United States, France, and Japan.
The successful launch of the "Dongfanghong-1" satellite holds an epoch-making significance in China's aerospace history. It laid a solid foundation and provided valuable experience for the subsequent development of China's aerospace industry. In March 2016, with the approval of the State Council, April 24, the launch date of the "Dongfanghong-1" satellite, was designated as "China Aerospace Day". The purpose is to vigorously promote the aerospace spirit, popularize aerospace knowledge scientifically, and inspire the enthusiasm for exploration and innovation of the whole nation. The achievements of China's aerospace science and technology have encouraged people of all ethnic groups across the country, including young people, to strive for the realization of the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.
Designed by Yu Xue, the stamp adopts a realistic creative approach with the "Dongfanghong-1" satellite and the number "50" as the main subjects. The satellite in the picture is depicted in detail with bright and prominent tones, forming a strong visual contrast with the dark blue background. Combined with the images of the "Long March-1" carrier rocket and the blue earth, the theme is clearly highlighted, presenting a grand and solemn visual effect.
Printed by Beijing Stamp Factory using the offset printing process, the stamp incorporates partial special ink and 3D embossing technology, making the "Dongfanghong-1" satellite vividly stand out on the paper. With its perfect three-dimensional effect and distinct tactile feel, it becomes an eye-catching focus. When observed under ultraviolet light, you will admire another fascinating view created by the number "50".
