Background
China Post will issue a set of two commemorative stamps on November 6, 2025, to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Samoa. The stamps are titled "White Eared Pheasant" and "Tooth-billed Pigeon" respectively. The full set has a face value of 2.40 yuan, with a planned circulation of 4.5 million sets.Samoa was one of the first Pacific island countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. Over the past 50 years, China and Samoa have maintained traditional friendship, consistently upholding mutual respect, equality, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
The stamp designs center on iconic bird species from both countries, blending Western pen-line techniques with Eastern light-wash painting styles. The delicate and expressive brushstrokes vividly capture the lifelike images of the two birds, which gaze at each other with spirited connection, exuding vibrant vitality. The stamps not only showcase the unique natural beauty of both nations but also symbolize the profound foundation and bright future of their bilateral friendship.
The first stamp features the White Eared Pheasant. As a key protected species in the Mo'ersi Bird Habitat of Danba, Sichuan, this bird has become a living representative of Danba's natural ecology. The region's unique plateau climate and suitable environment provide an ideal habitat for the species.
The second stamp depicts the Tooth-billed Pigeon. As an endemic bird species of Samoa, it is not only an important member of the local ecosystem but also regarded as a symbol of Samoa's natural and cultural heritage, embodying the Samoan people's love and appreciation for their homeland.
The stamps were printed using high-precision offset technology, which ensures rich layers of color and vibrant clarity while highlighting the thematic focus. Under ultraviolet light, the birds emit a beautiful fluorescence, enhancing both the visual appeal and anti-counterfeiting features of the stamps.
The stamp set was designed by Wang Guozheng, edited by Wang Nan, and printed by Beijing Stamp Printing Co., Ltd. using offset printing.
